RH2 The Journey Park, Rec, and Pro Am
Pickup spacing, defined Rec roles, and party queues once your Plaza jumper is stable.
Park and Rec are the online half of RH2 The Journey. Plaza teaches the jumper. MyCourt is private. Arcade pays daily rewards. The moment you step onto a Park court, there is a contest, a shot clock, and four other people who did not agree to be your highlight reel. Season 5 launched on 21 August 2026 with those queues already live. BAX Studio still labels the experience BETA. The matches are real. This page is how pickup 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 differ from Rec and Pro Am, and why a center who isos every possession loses faster than a guard who bricks a corner three.
If your release is still a coin flip, stay in Plaza and finish Shooting. If you cannot move without dumping the ball, finish Dribbling and the D-pad layout on Controls. New accounts should complete Getting Started so the build you queue with actually has a role. The rest of the Guides Hub is homework. This page is the game.
Park: pickup basketball with consequences
Park is casual 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3. Casual does not mean mindless. Spacing is the skill. A guard who pulls the ball over half court and dribbles out the clock while two teammates stand in the dunker spot is playing 1v3 on purpose. A big who spots up on the logo for a jumper they greened twice in Plaza is occupying the only space the guard needed.
If you are the ball-handler, your job is to create one honest look: a drive, a kick, or a pull-up you already time. If you are the wing, your job is to fill the corner or the slot and not chase the ball. If you are the big, your job is to screen, rebound, and finish. Do not iso every possession as the big. That sentence is the Park tutorial.
1v1 is a timing lab with a defender. Take it when you want to test a jumper or a single combo, not when you want to learn help defense. 2v2 teaches skip passes. 3v3 is the real Park game: three bodies, one ball, no hiding. Call a role in chat before the first inbound if the lobby is random. Silence is how two point guards end up on the floor together.
Ping still matters. The HUD values you learned in Plaza do not vanish because the court is outdoors. Take closer shots when the window shrinks. Takeover on a Park run is a possession buff, not a personality. Team Boost is the same idea for a squad that already knows who shoots.
Rec and Pro Am: defined roles, then the league
Rec and Pro Am are structured team queues. Positions mean something. A Rec point guard needs pass accuracy more than a tenth dribble. A Rec center needs rebound, interior defense, and finishes that do not require five gather animations. Wings need to corner-space and close out. If your attributes do not match those jobs, you are the reason random Rec feels like Park with extra loading.
Party with friends when you can. Five people who already agreed who brings the ball is a different sport from five Recommended templates who all maxed Shooting. Season 5 videos mention a league layered on top of Pro Am. Treat that as a scheduled Rec with the same spacing rules, not a different physics engine. RHC nights and community run-its use the same shot clock; they just yell less if you already know your spot.
Shot clock is a teammate. Guard the last eight seconds like they belong to a catch-and-shoot, not a snatchback. Kick out of a dead drive. Cut if you are ignored for two possessions, then cut back. Rec bigs who stand at the three-point line for JS 15 while the paint is empty are playing a different game from the one they queued.
Match your minutes to the players hub. Guards live on guards. Bigs live on bigs. Confirm the template on the builds list still matches Rec, not only Park 1v1. A lock build that never shoots can win Park and lose Rec if the other four need spacing. A 6’2 iso scorer can win 1v1 and lose Pro Am the first time help comes.
Habits that survive both queues
Talk or ping. A simple cut call is worth more than a new badge. Do not spam steal on every swing; fouls and blown rotations lose Rec faster than a missed corner. Box out before you chase a long rebound. Close out with high hands, not a fly-by that opens the corner behind you.
Badge plans still matter, but they are support. Unpluckable does not excuse a ten-dribble bag in traffic. Range Extender does not excuse a heat-check from the logo after two bricks. Check badges and Takeovers after the game, not while the clock is running. Journey Pass XP comes faster from complete Rec games than from quitting 3v3s you started losing.
Arcade after a session is fine. It is not practice. MyCourt after a brick streak is practice. Plaza between Park runs is how you keep the release you had an hour ago. The Season 5 notes are worth a look if a patch changed waiting rooms or Takeover Weekends; they will not teach you to pass.
Queue Rec when you can live with a defined job for a full game. Queue Park when you want shorter reps and louder mistakes. Queue Pro Am when you have a party that already survived Rec together. None of those modes is a solo career. The accounts that stall after a good Plaza week are the ones that treat every inbound like a montage intro. Inbound, space, one action, shot or pass. That loop is Season 5 online play. Learn it on Park, keep it in Rec, and take it to Pro Am only when your teammates already trust the extra pass.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for codes, builds, shooting, and Park play.
What is the difference between Park and Rec?
Park is pickup 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3. Rec and Pro Am are structured team queues with defined roles, pass accuracy for guards, and rebound or interior work for centers.
Should a center iso in Park?
No. Screen, rebound, and finish. Leave long isolations to the ball-handler. Spacing notes are on this page; the handle itself is on Dribbling.
When am I ready for Rec or Pro Am?
When you can hit open shots from Shooting and live in one role from Getting Started. Party with friends if you can.
Does Season 5 have a league?
Season 5 videos mention a league on top of Pro Am. Play it like scheduled Rec: same shot clock, same spacing, fewer randoms. RHC community nights use the same habits.
Why do I win Plaza and lose Park?
Is Park offline or local co-op?
No. Park, Rec, and Pro Am are online. There is no local split-screen. Party with friends on the same queues after you leave Plaza.
